More Than Just a Feeling

"Just be happy!" "Don't think that way". "This feeling will pass."  Do these phrases sound familiar?  How can we explain to others that it's more than just being sad?  How do we begin to understand why our brain is telling us all is hopeless, but our body is fighting to live?  Why is it that a simple phrase cannot resolve feelings that seem to linger? Does this mean depression is a choice? If it is, when did I choose this?

While most individuals can experience periods of depression, many others live with depression every day, affecting their obligations and things they enjoy in life.  Some may experience depression for a short amount of time, others for years.  No matter the length of time, depression is an experience, not a choice.  One that no one chooses to have.

Symptoms of Depression Can Include:

  • Sadness
  • Hopelessness
  • Loss of Interest
  • Difficulty Concentrating
  • Fatigue
  • Sleep Disturbance
  • Increase/Decrease in Appetite

Treatment

Treatment options I provide for depression include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  During session, we will take a look at how depression affects your life and find ways to overcome the symptoms that are currently causing disruption and distress, so that you are living a life where you are thriving and not just surviving.
